Is it wise to put an insulated lunch bag in the refrigerator?

I noticed that my colleagues in my office to put their bags insulated lunch in the refrigerator. Since the purpose of an insulated lunch bag seems to be to protect the contents of the environment outside, would it be more logical to remove the bag and put it directly in the refrigerator?

I do it coz there is no room for a cold pack in the lunch bag. My food does not stay cold. I use the bag to carry my lunch. I need to keep it cold. It is simply good for me. I lose a part of my meal to someone who can take it if it is not in the bag. Been there, done that.
